Admiral Ossama Rabie, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, SCA announced that the canal witnessed the traffic of the mega container ship CMA CGM SEINE,( IMO 9987196, MMSI 563254200 - sailing under the flag of Singapore. ) one of the largest container ships in the world, during its first sea voyage through the canal as part of the northbound convoy coming from Morocco and heading to Malaysia.
The ship belongs to the French shipping line CMA CGM and operates within the Fal3 shipping service, which operates on the trade route between Europe and the Far East. It is the newest ship in the group, having been delivered in 2025. The ship is 399 meters long, 61.3 meters wide, and has a draft of 40 feet, with a total tonnage of 250,000 tons, and can carry up to 23,876 containers

Rabie emphasized that the return of the world’s largest and most modern container ships to cross through the Suez Canal reflects confidence in the canal’s readiness and status as the best and most sustainable route for global trade passing between East and West.
The chairman of SCA noted that these serious steps will have a significant impact on bringing about positive changes in the maritime transport market, and urged other shipping lines to adjust their sailing schedules and resume their trips from the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab region via the Suez Canal.

The chairman of SCA pointed out that the Suez Canal has been working during the past period to improve the level of maritime and navigational services provided and to create new services to meet the requirements of customers and ensure the highest standards of maritime safety for giant or mega ships and marine units with special dimensions.
Rabie added that the French group CMA CGM witnessed an increase in the transit rates of its container ships with a net tonnage exceeding 130,000 tons, reaching 15 ships since last December, out of a total of 38 ships that have crossed the canal since last May, benefiting from the flexible pricing policies adopted by the Authority.
