Alexandria: : Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) participated today, Sunday, in the opening of the activities of the annual International Maritime Transport and Logistics Conference (MARLOG) in its fifteenth edition, which is organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport AASTMT under the auspices of the League of Arab States and in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, during the period from 8-10 February.

This took place in the presence of Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry, Admiral Ahmed Khaled Hassan, Governor of Alexandria, Dr. Nidal Mardi, Minister of Transport of the Kingdom of Jordan, Ms. Marita Hadjimenoulis, Minister of State for Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus, and Mr. Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone SCzone . Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and Professor Dr. Akram Al-Salmi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, with the participation of a large number of officials from the maritime transport industry at the Arab, regional and international levels.
In his speech, Admiral Osama Rabie expressed his appreciation for the scientific and applied role of the Marlog Conference and Exhibition, which is being held this year under the important title of "Smart and Flexible Logistics Corridors," stressing that this title is an accurate reflection of the reality of the Suez Canal, which has become a global symbol of resilience in the face of serious challenges.

Rabie emphasizes that the Suez Canal has proven over the past few years its ability to Facing various economic and geopolitical challenges, becoming an icon of Egyptian national will. He pointed out, in this regard, the canal's success in turning adversity into opportunity throughout the successive crises it has faced. Starting with the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, passing through the EVER GIVEN ship grounding crisis, then the Russian-Ukrainian war crisis, and the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab navigation crisis

Then the head of SCA addressed the Red Sea crisis, which proved beyond any doubt the strength of the canal, as 2024 was the year of testing and great impact, while the last quarter of 2025 witnessed the beginning of a relative recovery after the success of the peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh in stopping the ceasefire in Gaza and restoring calm and stability to the region.

The Chairman of SCA noted that the canal's navigation statistics during the first half of the fiscal year (2025/2026) witnessed a relative improvement, recording a growth in the number of passing ships by 5.8%, and an increase in net tonnage by 16%, which was reflected positively on the increase in revenues by 18.5%, compared to the same period of the fiscal year 2024/2025.
He added that the canal's shipping traffic since the beginning of 2026 recorded the passage of 1,315 ships with a total net tonnage of 56 million tons, achieved revenues of $449 million, compared to the passage of 1,243 ships with a total net tonnage of 47 million tons, achieved revenues of $368 million, compared to the same period last year.
Then, Rabie reviewed the features of the administrative development that the Authority witnessed within the 2030 strategy, which focused on efforts to empower and qualify young cadres through attention to advanced training programs, the development of vocational training centers, and the establishment of the Center for Creativity and Excellence to provide training programs in various disciplines, as well as the development of the Maritime Training and Simulation Academy.
He then discussed the efforts to develop the canal's navigation channel, which resulted in the completion and operation of the southern sector development project, raising the navigational safety factor in the canal by 28%. This was done in parallel with developing and modernizing the existing navigational services system and introducing new navigational services, most notably..The marine crew replacement service, the marine ambulance and marine rescue service, which was clearly demonstrated in the rescue operation of the crew of the ship "FENER" at the entrance to Port Said city.

The Chairman of SCA pointed out that the Suez Canal has redefined itself to become an advanced logistics system that adopts comprehensive digital transformation in all its operations He stressed that the Authority’s shipyards and companies have witnessed a major leap in the field of building auxiliary marine units within the ambitious strategy to localize the maritime industry under the slogan “Made in Egypt”, which resulted in contracting to export two tugboats to the Italian company “NERI”.

At the conclusion of the opening session, Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority SCA, inspected the pavilion dedicated to the Authority’s affiliated companies and shipyards at the Mar tech 2026 International Maritime Technology Exhibition, which is being held on the sidelines of the Marlog Conference. With wide participation from local and international companies in the field of port services, maritime transport, petroleum and marine information systems, it is one of the largest specialized exhibitions in the field of port services, maritime transport and information and communication technology in Egypt and the Middle East
