Hapag-Lloyd has instituted a weekly rail connection between Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Germersheim (Germany) as an alternative to its barge network, owing to transit restrictions on the Rhine River caused by water scarcity. The service started on 18 September, with a weekly capacity of 88 TEU in each direction. This will offer greater flexibility in land transport between Rotterdam and the Rhine region.

A new weekly rail service

It is noteworthy that the shipping company Hapag-Lloyd has announced a new weekly rail service between Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Germersheim in Germany. This alternative logistics solution is being implemented due to transit restrictions caused by water scarcity affecting the Rhine, one of Europe's main waterways. Regarding this, the company reported that 'this connection provides an alternative to our existing barge network and offers greater flexibility when planning land transport between Rotterdam and the Rhine region.'

The first export departed

The first export departed on 18 September and arrived in the Dutch city the following day. The second export left on 19 September and arrived in Germersheim tomorrow, on 21 September. It was also announced that the aforementioned rail service will have a weekly capacity of 88 TEU in each direction
