In 2025, four shipping companies were awarded the resources made available by the Government with the so-called "Labour Decree" (Legislative Decree 48/2023 converted into Law 85/2023) through a fund to support shipping companies with contributions for the initial training of maritime personnel. The fund finances the mandatory training of new professional figures (deck, engine, galley) to address personnel shortages, with an expected validity period of 2023-2026.
According to a recent announcement by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, four Italian shipping companies were awarded €728,845 for the past financial year: Corsica Ferries received €542,525, its parent company Forship €558,630, Grimaldi Euromed €558,630, and Visemar di Navigazione €70,000. The purpose of this subsidy is to increase maritime transport safety and fill the gap in trained personnel through initial training courses

The 2023 Italian "Labour Decree" (Decree Law No. 48/2023), effective from 5 May 2023, CMS Legal, introduced significant reforms to the Italian labor market, focusing on flexible, fixed-term contract renewals, tax incentives for hiring, and enhanced safety measures. It relaxed, for a 12-month period, the requirements for justifying fixed-term contract renewals and increased the non-taxable threshold for fringe benefits.
