The new vessel, is to replace the Eurocargo Roma, with its cargo capacity being doubled. Like the other vessels in its class

The Grimaldi Group is increasing its cargo capacity further on the Adriatic–Eastern Mediterranean routes. The fleet operating on the Italy-Greece-Turkey route has grown to include the Eco Adriatica, the fourth Grimaldi Green 5th Generation (GG5G) hybrid ro-ro vessel to enter service on this route. The first departure took place on 17 October from the Turkish port of Gemlik, marking a new phase for the route, which also calls at Trieste, Bari, Patras, and Ambarlı.

The new vessel

The new vessel, as explained in a statement by Grimaldi, is to replace the Eurocargo Roma, with its cargo capacity being doubled. Like the other vessels in its class — the Eco Salerno (IMO 9985538, MMSI 247453500), Eco Mediterranea and Eco Malta — which are already operating on the route, the Eco Adriatica can carry up to 7,800 linear metres of rolling cargo (equivalent to over 500 trailers). The combined deployment of these four modern vessels means that the Group's cargo capacity on the Trieste-Bari-Patras-Ambarli-Gemlik service now exceeds 4,000 rolling units per week.

The Neapolitan Group

The Neapolitan Group entered the Turkish short sea shipping market in September 2024. In response to growing transport demand, the regular connection between Italy, Greece, and Turkey has since been progressively expanded to include new ports and increase cargo capacity.
