Establishment of “K” Line Ship Management Holdings, Ltd.to strengthen the Group-wide Ship Management Structure

“K” LINE Signs Natural Capital-focused Commitment Line Agreement

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) has established “K” Line Ship Management Holdings, Ltd. (KLSM-H), an intermediate holding company that will oversee the ship management companies within the Group, with the aim of strengthening the Group's in-house ship management structure. KLSM-H will begin operations on April 1, 2026.

Ship management operations

In recent years, the environment surrounding ship management in the shipping industry has been changing significantly, driven by the acceleration of decarbonization efforts, advances in digital technology, and the need to secure and develop highly skilled maritime personnel. By further strengthening the expertise it has been developing for each ship type, “K” LINE will enhance the management structure to enable the entire Group to more flexibly utilize management resources (human resources, data and know-how), thereby str engthening the management oversight of ship management operations and further enhancing their sophistication.

KLSM-H will oversee the Group's ship management operations

Under the new structure, KLSM-H will oversee the Group's ship management operations and build an integrated structure enabling the entire Group to respond promptly and collectively to challenges such as environmental compliance and technological innovation etc. Each ship management company will continue to focus on further improving safety in navigation and transportation service quality, building on its on-site capabilities and expertise. KLSM-H will also work to enhance and stabilize the quality of ship management through the establishment of Group-wide management standards, advancing its overall ship management capabilities.

The enhancement of corporate value

By strengthening the Group-wide ship management structure centered on KLSM-H, “K” LINE will strive for further improvements in safety in navigation and transportation service quality, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society and the enhancement of corporate value.

Utilizing the Mizuho 

On the other hand (“K” LINE) signed a commitment line agreement (Agreement) utilizing the Mizuho Natural Capital Impact Finance scheme (the Financing Scheme)*1 and arranged through a syndicate led by Mizuho Bank, Ltd. (President & CEO: Masahiko Katō; Mizuho Bank). This is the first case in which this Financing Scheme has been utilized in the maritime industry.

The Financing Scheme is a loan program provided

The Financing Scheme is a loan program provided by Mizuho Bank based on an assessment methodology developed by Mizuho Research & Technologies, Ltd. (President & CEO: Masatoshi Yoshihara; Mizuho Research & Technologies), which incorporates the TNFD’s and other frameworks related to natural capital. The methodology is used to evaluate companies’ commitment to and initiatives for nature-positive management.*2 “K” LINE has been proactively addressing environmental issues that are unique to the shipping industry, including the prevention of oil pollution, the reduction of the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere, ballast water management, marine biodiversity conservation, and the mitigation of the industry’s impact on marine mammals. The recognition of these efforts contributed to the conclusion of the Agreement.

Under the Agreement, “K” LINE will establish multiple KPIs based on the Financing Scheme’s principles and the results of its assessment, and it will enhance its ongoing natural capital conservation initiatives that will be regularly monitored by Mizuho Research & Technologies and Mizuho Bank, which will provide feedback.
