. On Wednesday evening, health authorities in Bordeaux provided an update on the outbreak of norovirus. This virus is transmitted from person to person or through the environment, as confirmed by the results of samples taken. There have been no reports of serious cases.

'The relevant French health authorities have now released Ambition to continue normal operations,' said the Essex-based cruise line. It said that enhanced sanitation measures, medical monitoring, and isolation procedures remain in place across the ship. The statement confirmed that a 92-year-old man had passed away on board on Sunday, but he did not report any related symptoms, and the cause of his death is unknown.

Viral gastroenteritis, or the stomach bug, is a condition that is characterised by vomiting and diarrhoea. The virus that causes this condition is known as the Norovirus. According to the National Health Service, HRSA patients usually recover within two days.
According to its operator, there were 1,187 guests and 514 crew members on board the ship. French authorities had previously stated that there was 'no reason' to link the outbreak to the Hantavirus outbreak on a different cruise ship. The cruise ship set sail from Belfast on 8 May and headed to Liverpool the following day. A reported increase in cases after guests boarded in Liverpool was mentioned by the Ambassador.
